On Tuesday, 27 March 2018, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, and the Film School of Aristotle University Thessaloniki together with the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa – G.I. Katsigras Museum welcomed everyone at the exhibition “LIFE THROUGH THE EYES OF THE OTHER” at the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa – G.I. Katsigras Museum (Geor. Papandreou 2, Larisa 413 34).
The exhibition compiles original films and photos taken by young refugees and Greek students within the frames of the project “Life through the Eyes of the Other” which is the fruit of the collaboration between UNHCR, the Film School of the Aristotle University, Anatolia College and Arsakeio High School of Thessaloniki.
The project was first initiated in 2016, with the participation of students from Anatolia College and young refugees from eight government run sites in northern Greece. The second phase of the project begun in November 2017, with the participation of students from Arsakeio High School and young refugees from Palestine, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, residing in UNHCR accommodation in Thessaloniki, which is part of the ESTIA programme (Emergency Support To Integration & Accommodation), funded by the European Union Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid (ECHO).
Throughout the project, the participants (both locals and refugees) had the chance to look at each other’s lives through a camera lens, and with the artistic supervision and technical support of students from the Film School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, turn it into documentary films.
The collection of short films and photos will be presented at the Municipal Art Gallery of Larissa – G.I. Katsigras Museum and remain open to the public until 12 April 2018. There will be activities organized during the exhibition with the participation of refugee families, residing in apartments that are part of the ESTIA programme of the Municipality of Larissa.
