A five-member Syrian refugee family was the first one to settle some days ago in an apartment in Larissa through the ESTIA programme. The programme was recently launched in the city by the Municipality of Larissa in collaboration with the UN Refugee Agency in Greece.
The parents and their three children had been living in Koutsochero site in Central Greece from the beginning of 2017 until last Thursday, December 1st, when the youngest son of the family received with a big smile the key for the apartment that will be their new home from now on.
The ESTIA programme (Emergency Support To Integration and Accommodation), implemented by UNHCR with funding by the European Commission and in collaboration with the Ministry of Migration Policy, provides urban accommodation in apartments and cash assistance, so that refugees can cover their basic needs. In Larissa the programme is coordinated and implemented by DIKEL – Larissa Municipal Utility.
